Armageddon – The Beginning Or The End?

Armageddon is one of the best known concepts in the Bible. At least the word Armageddon is. Most people have no idea what Armageddon is or what it refers to. Many people thing that it is the end of the world. Actually, the Bible days that it is the beginning of a new existence for born-again Christians.

Where Armageddon Takes Place

Armageddon is a battle that takes place in the valley of Megiddo that is now known as the valley of Jezreel. Megiddo is actually a very large hill in Israel. See the map for its location. It was a hill (or mountain) located along the most important land route in the ancient Near East. The hill rises 70 feet above the valley and the flat top occupies about 10 acres. It was a city that dominated international traffic for thousands of years.

It guarded a route called the Via Maris. It was the most important highway of the ancient world. It connected Egypt with Mesopotamia. This road had to pass through the Megiddo Pass so those who controlled Megiddo controlled the traffic that went through the Pass. There is now a modern road that follows the same route as the ancient road.

There has also been countless battles fought in this very flat valley. The last one being during World War I in Sept., 1918.

Megiddo has been called the jewel in the crown of Biblical archaeology. It is the only site in Biblical lands that has the remains of 25 to 30 cities built one on top of each other. It was last occupied when the Romans controlled the area.

What The Bible Says About Armageddon

The Bible only mentions Armageddon once and that is in Rev. 16:16 (NIV): “Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.” This is a gathering of the armies of the world to fight against God, Himself.

I have always wondered “how could mortal rulers even consider that they could defeat God Almighty?” Then I began to study Rev. 16:14 (NIV) where it says: “They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.”

According to Rev. 16:13, these spirits are directly from Satan himself. These spirits deceive the kings and make them believe that they have supernatural powers and are able to defect God, Himself.

Is this even possible? Well, look at what is happening in the world right now. The most hated people on earth are Jews and Christians. Even right here in America, Christians are the only “religion” that doesn’t have any rights. For instance, Christmas can only be celebrated in our schools if any reference to Jesus is left out. Even in our own White House, Christmas is only celebrated as a Winter Festival.

Wait until the Holy Spirit is removed from the earth. The number of people who think that they are god, will multiply and multitudes will think that they are greater than God Almighty.

What Happens At Armageddon

There is a great final battle involving the armies of the world and Jesus and His army. This battle is described in Rev. 19:11-20:3 and Ezekiel 38:17-39:29.

Revelation describes the battle as Jesus coming down from heaven with His armies, dressed in white. And with the words spoken by Him, the armies of the world are destroyed.

The Ezekiel passages gives a much more detailed description of this battle. In fact, it ways that it will take 7 months to just bury the dead. Then, the people will be using the destroyed weapons for fuel for 7 years. This has led many to believe that this battle described in Ezekiel will take place at the beginning of the Tribulation Period.

However, the battle in Ezekiel and the one in Revelation refer to the same battle. This is the one at the end of the Tribulation Period. This “mopping up” will take place after Jesus begins his reign in Jerusalem.

Jesus Is King of Kings and Lord of Lords

Don’t be fooled by what the world thinks of Jesus. The “anti-Christ” forces of the world do believe that they are greater than Jesus. If they believe in Jesus at all, they believe that he was just a good teacher and nothing else. Are they ever in for the surprise of their life?

Jesus is coming again. And He will come with the armies of heaven to defeat the evil in the world. And remember, the armies of heaven are all those who have died after they have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. It will also include all of those who were taken up into heaven at the Rapture.

Where Will You Be?

I am looking forward to being in that army. Are you? Are you ready to meet Jesus when He comes back for His Church? Or will you have to go through the Great Tribulation and meet Him when He comes back to destroy the evil in the world? It will be one or the other, unless you are killed during the Great Tribulation.

  1. One of the most important reason I read your blog are great comments 🙂

    • Paul says:

The thing that makes this holiday so woerndful is the warmth of good spirits. The problem is that we should all be this way, all the time. Why wait for christmas to spread good cheer, in a world that is so close to destroying itself. Instead of tripping over each other to look like the better man, why don’t we treat each other as the better man? The christmas season has been entrenched with myth and legend and pagan practices to numerous of which to mention. One could, and probably have written a book on it. The christmas tree story itself is a ritual. St. Nick was a real man whose generosity and magnanimity won him a spot as Santa; but I think that if he were alive he would be appalled at what this world has done with him. I don’t think Jesus hates this holiday, but it defeats the purpose to which he has called us. We need to be willing to have this christmas spirit all year long. Gods will on earth is what we should be concerned with, not a mad rush for gifts and celebration.
