Protection From Satan

We live in an evil world. And this is not because of all the natural disasters and wars that are going on. We live in a physical world that is a part of a spiritual world. And this spiritual world is inhabited by demons as well as by angels. The real world is the spiritual world where God lives. We just live in a temporary environment created for us human beings.

The Spirit World Affects Us

We are surrounded by spiritual beings. We do not see them because they do not have physical bodies. We only see them when they enable us to see them. Throughout the Bible, we are told of cases where angels appeared to human beings. In most cases, they appeared as normal human beings. Other times, they appeared with such brilliance that the people who saw them knew that they were not human but had to be from God.

The Bible seldom talks about demons appearing to humans. One exception is when Satan appeared to Jesus in the wilderness to tempt Him. However, I have read the testimonies of people living today who God allowed to see demons in the spirit world. They usually appear to be hideous creatures.

However, we need to be alert. God warns us in II Cor. 11:14 (NIV): “for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” This warning tells us that we need to test everything that we receive against what the Bible says. Satan will often disguise his temptations as something good and something we will truly enjoy but they are not what God wants for us. In fact, if we fall for Satan’s temptations, they will lead us away from God.

But remember, God will never say anything that is contrary to His Holy Word, our Bible. This is how we can determine if the thought that we get in our head is from God or it is from a demon. Or perhaps it is something that a demon has tempted us with and it is just our own thought, but contrary to God’s Word.

The Spirit World Is Full Of Evil

God warns us about the evil that is in the spirit world and how it can affect us. Eph. 6:12 is the best passage concerning this and the Living Bible explains it very clearly.

Eph. 6:12 – “For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies–the evil rulers of the unseen world, those mighty satanic beings and great evil princes of darkness who rule this world; and against huge numbers of wicked spirits in the spirit world.”

When we study Rev. 12, we realize that Satan is a real spirit that has been cast out of heaven because he rebelled against Jehovah. We also find out that he had a following of one third of the angels in heaven. It is all of these fallen angels that Eph. 6:12 is talking about. People Are Misidentifying Evil Spirits

Some of the most popular TV shows today have to do with ghost hunting. They are appearing in many different cable networks. Do not be fooled by these broadcasts. The Bible clearly states that when we die, we immediately go either to heaven or hell. No one stays on the earth in the form of a ghost. Also, the testimonies of many people who have died and have been resuscitated testify to this fact. They found themselves, not wandering the earth, but either in heaven or hell.

These “ghost hunters” are dealing with something that they do not understand. In fact, they are dealing with a very dangerous entity. The “spirit creatures” that they are encountering are demons who are portraying themselves as deceased human beings.

Credibility is given to this fact as we notice where most of these spirits are found. They are usually found in places where people had engaged in evil practices in the past. These are places where demons are attracted and some tend to stay in those places.

Satan Wants To Destroy Us

God warns us about what Satan is trying to accomplish. He tells us in I Peter 5:8 (NIV): “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Satan was cast out of heaven and he is furious with God. He knows his final destiny and he doesn’t want to end up there alone. He wants to take as many of God’s ultimate creation with him as he can. Remember, we are God’s ultimate creation.

This is why Satan is doing everything he can to get people to reject God and follow him. This is why he makes doing evil things so fascinating and enjoyable. Make no mistake. Sin is fun. Satan makes sure that it is. But remember, it is fun for only a very short time. Rebellion against God will end in an eternity separated from God and everything that He provides for us.

If you want real fun that will last forever, your only choice is to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. When you do this, you may have trouble here on the earth, but it will only be temporary. Your real fun will be found in heaven for all eternity.

We Can Compromise With Demons

I Cor. 10:21 (NIV) gives us a warning: “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.” Too many people want to do this. They want to be Christians but they also want to take part in many of the evils of the world.

One of the reasons for this is that people do not recognize what God means by “table of demons.” Yes, this passage is talking specifically about participating in the sacrifices offered to demons. But this passage is ultimately talking about the subject of idolatry.

Idolatry is not just sacrificing to idols, it is actually making something else more important to us than God.  This can include almost anything in our modern life. For instance, if we put making money more important to us than worshiping and obeying God, money becomes our idol. How do we do this? One very important way is saying that I cannot tithe because I need that money to live on or to invest. When we do this, we are making money more important to us than doing the will of God.

Another case would be if we put enjoying the things of the world so much that we do not have time to spend with God. When this happens we are making some things of the world our idol and are putting them in place of God. The result is the same as offering sacrifices to idols.

God Will Protect Us From Satan

This is one of the purposes of our Bible. Throughout the Bible, God warns us about Satan and tells us what we can do to protect ourselves from him. God tells us very simply in James 4:7 (NIV): “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” It sounds simple, but in practice, it is not. Satan is too devious and tricks us into doing what he wants us to do.

This is why God tells us in Eph. 6:11 (NIV): “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” Here God talks about the belt of truth, shield of faith, the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. In other words, we need to prepare ourselves for battle. Why? Because whether we want to admit it or not, as Christians, we are in a spiritual war. And, if we are not properly prepared, Satan will defeat us.

Why doesn’t God just kick Satan our of the world and not allow him to bother us? Because Satan brings to the light the evil that people keep in their own hearts. Satan does not realize it, but he is doing God a favor.

Yes, many will never recognize or care that they are engaging in evil practices. But, for many people, when Satan brings to light the evil in their hearts, they will recognize it and turn to God to get rid of it. Many are saved, because of what Satan does in their lives.

Do not blame Satan for the evil that you do. You are a free creature and you are free to think and do whatever you want. If you see that you are engaging in evil practices, wake up and turn to God through Jesus Christ and you will be saved from an eternity of separation from God.
