Sin – Creation Of and Remedy For

The most tragic event in the history of the world was when sin was introduced into the world. Before Adam and Eve sinned against God, the Bible states in Genesis 1:31 (NIV): “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” God had created everything, including a beautiful garden where He put Adam and Eve. There they lived in harmonious community with nature, God and everything that God had created. It was a perfect world.

Sin Was Introduced

However, one day Satan entered the garden to tempt Adam and Eve to rebel against God. Satan did not appear as an evil character but rather as something that both Adam and Eve were familiar, a serpent. Remember, this was a perfect environment, nothing in that environment would harm them. But that is the way that Satan always tempts us, through something that we are familiar with and view to be good.

Satan talked with Eve and begin to put doubt in her mind. He began by getting Eve to believe that God’s rules sounded extreme and really not necessary. He convinced Eve that God was actually holding something from her that would be good for her. Then he convinced Eve how harmless it would be to simply taste the forbidden fruit. “Just a bite would not hurt anyone.” But simply tasting that which was forbidden was all it took to separate Adam and Eve from the harmony of God’s creation.

Eve did not plan on rebelling against God. In fact, she probably thought that God is so loving that He would not really mind if she just sampled the forbidden fruit. Surely God did not want to hold from her something that looked so good.

That is exactly what we do. We never plan to rebel against God. We just want to sample what God says to stay away from. We just want to experience something new. We believe that just a taste will not hurt us. This is exactly what Satan wants us to believe.

The Result Of That First Sin

When Adam and Eve sinned, they introduced a new element into their nature. They actually changed their perfect nature that God had given them. And this new fallen nature has been passed down from one generation to the next. This fact is explained in Genesis 5:3 (NIV): “When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.”

Just as Adam had been created in the image and likeness of God, Himself, Adam passed his new image and likeness of himself on to his son (children). Compare these two verses. Genesis 1:26 (NIV) “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.” Genesis 5:3 (NIV) “When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image.” When Adam changed his own nature by introducing sin into it, he passed that new nature onto his own children.

We all pass our own fallen nature onto our children. This is why we so easily yield to the temptations of Satan. We are born with a rebellious spirit. Every parent knows this. Small children do not respect their authority (their parents). Every parent knows that if they do not want to have a rebellious child on their hands, they must in some way remove that inbred rebellion from them.

Ever since that first victory that Satan had over Eve, he has been tempting and deceiving human beings ever since. None of us are immune to his temptations. Even Jesus was tempted by Satan. Look at Mark 1:13 (NIV): “and He (Jesus) was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan.”

But there was a big difference between what Jesus did and what we so often do. Jesus resisted the temptations of Satan. He did not fall for his (Satan’s) tricks. We can learn a big lesson here. Look what happened to Jesus after he resisted all the temptations of Satan.

Matthew 4:11 (NKJV): “Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.” This is exactly what will happen to us after we completely resist the temptations of Satan. God will send His angels and we will feel the peace and presence of God.

Yes, Satan continues to tempt us because he knows that we will fall for his temptations. He is trying to destroy us so we will not receive the blessings that God wants to give to us. This is why we are warned in I Peter 5:8 (NIV): “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

God’s Remedy For That Sin

As human beings we are born with sin as a part of our nature and it must be eradicated. This was why Jesus came. He came to eradicate this sin nature and to redeem us back to God. This was and is God’s plan for us. John 3:16 (NKJV): “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

God knew, even before He created us, that if He created us with free will, that we would rebel against Him. Yet, He did it anyway. He wanted so desperately to have someone to share his great love with. So He created a plan for redemption, even before He created the world.

There are many Bible verses that tell us this. In fact, Jesus, Himself, tells us this. When He was telling the parable that explained who would be with Him in His kingdom, He said Matthew 25:34 (NIV): “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.’”

Notice in the above parable that those who are blessed by the Father and are taken into His kingdom are those who do His will. And what is the will of the Father? He has made it very simple for us. All we have to do is to accept what Jesus did for us on the cross and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Have You Made Your Choice?

This is the question that I have for you. Have you made the choice to do the will of the Father by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? It may seem very simple, but it is a life changing decision. Yes, you accept that Christ died in your place for your sins, but then you commit to living for Jesus for the rest of your existence.

If you do not know how to do this and want to make this commitment and be able to live with God forever, go to How To Live Forever and follow what is written there. You will never regret you decision.
