The Satanic Trinity

Satan has always wanted to take the place of the Father (Almighty God). Ezekiel 28 reveals this to us. Satan, who was originally called Lucifer, tried to put himself on God’s throne. He wanted to be equal with God. For this, he was cast out of heaven. Isaiah 14 revels this to us. So it should not surprise us that he creates a trinity to show his power.

Satan Counterfeits the Holy Trinity

Since Satan decided that he wanted to take God’s place, it is no wonder that he wants to imitate God. I am going to use the word Jehovah for Almighty God in this discussion to distinguish between Almighty God and Satan’s imitation of God. This word for God is revealed to us in Exodus 6:3 even though some translations translate the Hebrew word “Yhovah” as “Lord.”

Satan wants everyone to see him as powerful and as important as Jehovah. Thus, when he comes to power in the last days of the Tribulation Period, he creates for himself a trinity to try to imitate Jehovah.

He puts himself in the place of Jehovah. He sets himself us in the role of the supreme being. He wants to be seen as the almighty power that has control of everything that happens. He wants everyone to fall down and worship him instead of Jehovah.

But to imitate God, he must also create for himself the same type of godhead that Jehovah has. So he creates two other positions that are filled by two human beings. They are called the Antichrist and the False Prophet.

The Antichrist

The first person that Satan raises up is called the Antichrist. This is a fitting title for him. He is to play the role of Jesus Christ in Satan’s plot. Jesus came to bring peace to the world. The Antichrist will bring peace, for only for a very short time.

This is the person that the Bible reveals as the last world leader. He starts out by acting just like Jesus. He portrays himself as a peaceful and benevolent person. He gathers a large following by proclaiming that if people will just follow him, he will bring peace to the world.

Jesus actually does bring peace to those who follow Him. And if everyone would follow Him and make Him their Lord and Savior, peace would come to the world. The marvelous truth is that for those who do accept Him as their Lord and Savior, they will be brought into an eternal place of peace. We call that place heaven.

But for those who follow the Antichrist, it will be a false peace. It will be a peace that will last for only a very short period of time. In fact, it will be less than 3 ½ years. He will draw the leaders of the nations of the world into his trap. They will believe that if they follow him and accept his authority, peace will come to the world. And isn’t that what the world is looking for right now?

The False Prophet

But Satan isn’t done yet, to truly imitate Jehovah, he must have a third person for his trinity. And this person must play the role of the Holy Spirit.

What is the role of the Holy Spirit? His role is to magnify Jehovah and Jesus. It is through the Holy Spirit that we know who Jehovah is and especially know who Jesus is. It is the Holy Spirit that enables born-again Christians to boldly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus. The Holy Spirit never draws attention to Himself, but everything He says points to Jesus and to Jehovah.

The False Prophet is first introduced to us in Rev. 13:11 (NIV): “Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon.” Notice that he is described as a beast. But what a beast! He looked like a lamb but spoke like a dragon.

This tells us what kind of a person that he is. First, he is a religious leader because he is described as a lamb. Remember, Jesus is the Lamb of God. To the world, the False Prophet looks like someone who will lead us to the savior of the world. Notice that this false prophet never calls attention to himself. He always lifts up the Antichrist and proclaims the Antichrist as the savior of the world.

The Destiny of This Satanic Trinity

The destiny of this satanic trinity is certainly not the same as the Holy Trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Trinity will gather together all those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and will dwell with them in peace for all eternity.

Rev. 19:20 tells us what will happen to the Antichrist and the False Prophet. Rev. 19:20 (NIV): “But the beast (Antichrist) was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.”

However, Satan is cast into the bottomless pit for 1000 years. Why? Because he will be released for a very short time at the end of this 1000 year period (the Millennium). Why?  It is to reveal the evil that is in everyone’s heart who has not accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

But in the end, the Satan will meet the same fate that the Antichrist and the False Prophet met. Rev. 20:10 (NIV): “And the devil (Satan), who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”

God Wins

Somehow, Satan thinks that if he does everything just right by imitating Jehovah, that he can and will defeat Him. Rev. 19 tells us the story of how he gathers the armies of the world together to fight against Jesus and His heavenly host. He even gathers another army at the end of the Millennium (1000 years of Christ’s reign on the earth). And again, he is defeated and cast into the lake of burning sulfur.

Whose Side Are You On?

Whose side are you on? Are you following the world that is led by Satan and his demons? Or are you on the winning side and following Jesus? Your eternal fate will be determined by who you choose to follow. If you are still here after the Rapture, be sure to choose the right side.
