When Will The Rapture Happen?

Should we be looking for the Rapture to happen? Are we wrong to expect the Rapture during our own lifetime? Some say that we shouldn’t expect Him to come anytime soon. Others are so sure that He is coming soon that they have actually set dates for the return of Jesus.

People Have Set Dates For The Rapture

Many people have been predicting that the rapture will happen at a certain date and even time. Look at just a few.

  • William Miller said that it would happen on Oct. 22, 1844.
  • The group “Mission for the Coming Days” said that it would happen on Oct. 28, 1992.
  • John Hinkle said it would happen on June 9, 1994.
  • Harold Camping first set date of rapture on Sep. 27, 1994, then he changed it to May 21, 2011

What Does The Bible Say?

These are just a few predictions that have come and gone. Some are still predicting it for a certain time in the future. The biggest problem for these predictions is found in I Thess. 5:2 where it says: “for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” (NIV). Just as we don’t know when a thief will strike, we will not know when the rapture will happen.

In fact the next verse (I Thess. 5:3) says that the Rapture will happen when we least expect it. “While people are saying, ‘Peace and safety,’ destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.” In other words, Jesus will come when everyone is expecting that everything is going to be calm and peaceful.

We Cannot Know The Day Nor The Hour

There are many verses that say that we cannot know the day nor the hour, such as: Matthew 24:36 (NIV) “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” And again in Matthew 24:44 (NIV), Jesus said: “So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

Jesus, Himself, said that He did not know when He would return. If He doesn’t know, how can we expect to know?

We Can Know The “Season” When He Will Return

People that set a specific time simply do not know their Bible. However, Jesus did say many different times that we can know the season in which He will come. In fact, Matt. 24 & 25 is a discourse Jesus gave on His 2nd coming. It is very interesting, read It.

What We Need To Know

The only thing we really need to know is what Jesus said in John 14:1-4 where He said, “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

Tim LaHaye, who has written many books on Bible Prophecy, stated that there are 318 promises of Christ’s return in the Bible. This tells me that Jesus wanted us to know about and to look for His 2nd coming.

This is why Jesus gave us the parable of the ten virgins in Matt. 25:1-4. Read It.

But what can we know about His 2nd coming and the coming Rapture? Jesus gave us a parable to show us that we can know the season in which He is coming. “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.” Matthew 24:32 (NIV)

Jesus Is Coming Soon

There are signs that we can see that tell us that His return is very, very soon. I will be talking about these in my next blog. Stay tuned.
